In 2014, students and interns at QConcepts participated in the first HydroContest. This is a design en engineering match where international teams build a remote controlled boat and race each other.
The HydroContest took place on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Teams from all over the world where represented.
The boat that the students built was 2.5 meters in length, has a power output 1.2 kW and is controlled from the shore or a pontoon near the racing area.
Racing components were speed, endurance and carrying heavy loads up to 240 kilos. When having to carry loads, the boat was enhanced with a cargo element and temporarily renamed ‘Qargo’. This element was inspired by typical Dutch ‘fietstassen’.
