Smart Display

The Smart Display that was developed at QConcepts is a clever device that is equipped with several ports. A number of signals can be sent to the box. These signals are processed by an efficient and low power processor. The required information is displayed on the screen. At the same time, the outputs of the display are used to send out a programmed action. The display has UTP, USB and CANBUS connections, a potential free relay output, an analog input and three digital I/O ports. The universal Smart Display is ready for delivery from september 2016 and can be set up for various purposes.

The idea for a multi-purpose display system originates in the need to display the Laadstation Slingelandenergy that is generated by solar panels. In this application the system is in use at a charging dock for electric bicycles at the Slingeland hospital in Doetinchem.

At fire departments, the so called Fire Call Timer (FCT) is used. The Smart Display enhances the possibilities of the FCT. The system responds to the communication system of Dutch emergency services, P2000. It displays the time since the first fire call and detects fire trucks pulling out. Times are logged and this way it provides an insight in the amount of time it takes to respond to a call. This way, the Smart Display offers the fire departments help to follow protocols and to improve them. Another example of an application of the display is sports tracking and timing.

Aeronamics Presents ‘Easy’-Foiling Sailboat FLO1

Up until today, the thrill of hydrofoil sailing has been a privilege only for a small group of highly skilled sailors. Aeronamics originates in the desire to make the hydrofoiling experience available to a large group of sailing enthusiasts. The Aeronamics Flo1 will make desire reality soon.


The decision to design and build the Flo1 was made when Aeronamics founder Jurian Rademaker noticed that among sailors in his network, there is a demand for an easy way to experience foiling. “We asked our sailing friends how they like to sail a hydrofoiler and what is important to them. Simplicity, durability and speed were the answers we received.” And so a boat was designed around those criteria.

Boat tech details

The boat is now in its final testing phase and is soon production-ready. It is a 4.25 m hydrofoiling sailing dinghy. In experienced hands the Flo1 will be able to reach speeds of over 20 knots. However, the goal of the boat is not speed but easy foiling, which is possible thanks to its self-stabilizing character. In windspeeds of 6-8 knots the boat will take off and sail on het foils. Thanks to the integrated DSS system, the boat is manageable for the club sailor.


The first two prototypes were fast, but did not comply with the goal of making foiling available to a larger group of sailors. To achieve this, Aeronamics enlisted the help of naval architect Hugh Welbourn, the creator of the patented Dynamic Stability Systems (DSS). DSS-technology makes a boat sail naturally stable. The technology has previously proven its value in designs of Infiniti Yachts and Quant Boats. After initial contact with Welbourn, the third and last Aeronamics prototype was equipped with DSS-foils. The technology appeared to be the perfect fit for the boat, because of its natural foiling balance without active controls.

Aeronamics will start production in Q1 of 2017. Build slots can be reserved on the company website. Training, a mobile tuning app and a ‘how-to-manual’ are part of the package.

SKEIRON, a multi-purpose platform

Last week, the Dutch river dikes were under considerable pressure after a historic amount of rainfall in a very short time span. The water levels rose rapidly and in the German town of Hamminkeln, just across the border, the dikes of the river Issel were on the verge of breaking. In such cases it is important for the authorities to observe the situation carefully.

Our SKEIRON can play an important role in the near future. Aside of producing energy, the machine offers various other functionalities. Large surfaces can be scanned from the air. In a situation where water levels are extremely high, SKEIRON can take off, equipped with all kinds of sensors, to monitor the situation. An airborne measurements system could be circling above any ‘hotspots’ to guard all kinds of parameters related to the state of the dike, such as water level, vegetation, subsidence, movements and saturation.

In our view, SKEIRON is a multi-purpose platform, which is potentially suitable for numerous matters, for example crowd control, neighborhood watch and wind and air measurements.

Zeilen Foilingdag

Aanstaande zaterdag 30 april vindt de Zeilen Foilingdag plaats in de Bataviahaven in Lelystad. Het evenement maakt onderdeel uit van de Cornelisrace, een jaarlijks maritiem festival. Organisator Zeilen Magazine brengt heel foilend Nederland bij elkaar. De gehele dag geven allerlei bedrijven, sporters en andere partijen er dan ook presentaties en demonstraties die te maken hebben met draagvleugels. Dé uitgelezen kans dus om kennis uit te wisselen en eens te bekijken hoe de uitdaging van het hydrofoilen aangpakt wordt. Wij zijn op deze dag aanwezig met onze foilende Aeronamics-zeilboot, die zich momenteel in de testfase bevindt.

QConcepts geeft om 10.45 uur een presentatie over de ontwikkeling hiervan, getiteld ‘De ontwikkeling van een foilende monohull’. Ook het team van RISE Delft, de foilende roeiboot van de TU Delft, is aanwezig op de Foilingdag.

Het evenement is gratis toegankelijk.

Ondernemersdag 2016 – Geslaagde middag op De Vijverberg

Vorige week al mochten we het mooie nieuws ontvangen dat we een van de drie genomineerden waren voor de prijs van het ‘Innovatiefste bedrijf van de Achterhoek’. Deze werd gisteren uitgereikt tijdens de Ondernemersdag 2016. Medegenomineerden waren Stooff Interior Projects en Nijhuis Water Technology.



De Ondernemersdag was een tot in de puntjes georganiseerde dag en vond plaats in stadion De Vijverberg.

De middag werd aan elkaar gepraat door Jort Kelder. Ook kwam een spreker van Fountainheads aan het woord die nog eens wees op het belang van innovatie door te waarschuwen voor het ‘Kodak-moment’. Kodak ging immers failliet door niet voldoende te innoveren.



Aan het eind van de middag vond de uitreiking van de prijs plaats. De gelukkige winnaar was, met 64% van de stemmen, Nijhuis Water Technology. Het bedrijf houdt zich bezig met het terugwinnen van grondstoffen uit afvalwater en reststromen en draagt zo bij aan een duurzamere industrie. Geheel terecht dus, wat ons betreft. Van harte gefeliciteerd!

Kortom, een inspirerende dag die we tussen mooi gezelschap hebben mogen doorbrengen.
